Nuclear Security Summit: Indian perspective Bookmark and Share

The Nuclear Security Summit held in United States of America for two days on April 12 and 13. After 1947, it was the first time that USA hosted such a big summit. Heads of the states of 47 nations, UNO, EU and IAEA took part in the summit. The agenda of summit was to ensure the security of nuclear stockpiles around the world in next four years and preventing the terror outfits like AL-Qaida to obtain nuclear material. President Barack Obama's intention was to make an agreement for this purpose and almost he achieved it. The next Nuclear Security Summit will be held at South Korea in 2012.

Lok Sabha Secretariat in an RTI response has revealed that no action could be taken against defaulting Lok Sabha members who did not submit details of their assets and wealth to Lok Sabha Speaker as required under rule 5(1) of "the Members of Lok Sabha (Declaration of Wealth & Liabilities) Rules 2004" because rule 5(2) required a written complaint in this regard to Lok Sabha Speaker by some member or an Indian citizen.

The situation is volcanic and the issues being raised are diluted by the media thereby defocusing the whole issue at large. Is it pragmatic to look for the brand a person is wearing when he is practically facing death like situation? I am amazed that while the people starve, remain unemployed and insecure matters with less importance are being given undue importance.
