The Indian Premier League (IPL) on foreign shores would not have the same feel as it got huge popularity last year. On other hand, IPL has become an international brand for sports in the country and its shifting from the country has damaged its reputation. It's extremely disappointing for Indian cricket lovers as it is essentially a domestic tournament. Obviously, the Indian public would have liked to have IPL matches played in India.
Giving priority to the player's security, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at an emergency meeting decided to hold the Twenty20 tournament outside the country. Earlier, the State governments expressed their inability to provide security to the tournament as it clashed with the general elections.
But this decision of BCCI may create a negative image for the country internationally and India may be compared with Pakistan for not being able to provide security for the sports event. Another question arose over the Commonwealth Games and how the country would be able to provide security for those games if it cannot provide security to the IPL matches. Merinews
