Chandni Chowk is known among the people for its food corners of dahi bhalle to paranthas, wholesale market of spices to dry fruits, and hundred of shops within one roof for all kind of wedding shopping. But that's not really all about this one of the oldest markets of Delhi. It's a very little known fact that within the Chandni Chowk, there lays Asia's biggest camera/photo market. Photo market on the Esplanade Road, which was established just after the independence, has some 300 shops offering various ranges of latest still and video cameras of both professional and consumer grade. This shopping lane keeps busy all the time just as any other shopping lane. No wonder that this is popular among professionals like wedding photographers and news channels as it has dedicated shops on photo and camera accessories. There are shops of all size of album covers, background, lenses and tripod to chemicals, films, battery, video cassette and camera covers. Owner of Pritam Studio, which is one of the oldest and biggest shops on the lane, says we have customers coming from all over India, which includes both professionals and amateurs. Since it's a wholesale market, it also has an equal number of customers, who are not professional camera users but amateurs. Rajiv Bhatia, who bought the SLR D80 Still camera with his whole family for the first time from this market said, "One of my friends has recommended me to do the purchase from this market because he said we get a good bargain here." Not only the brand new cameras, but it's also a perfect destination for getting the cameras and its spare parts repaired and serviced at the reasonable price as there are number of shops for the same.
