Indian Badminton's golden girl, Saina Nehwal, has once again proved her ability by winning the prestigious Indonesian Open, beating the higher-ranked Chinese, Lin Wang. This is one more addition to the wins of other Indian sportspersons in the international arena. Nehwal beat China's third ranked player, 12-21, 21-18, 21-9, in Jakarta on Sunday, in just 47 minutes. It is a matter of pride to India and Hyderabad in particular. According to her coach and mentor, Pullela Gopichand, she is now ranked seventh in the world and he pointed out that it was not an easy thing to win the Indonesian Open, considering the competition. In an interview to a Telugu News Channel, she said that she was just nineteen years and definitely had ten more years of top badminton in her, and if she continued with the same consistency she had a chance of reaching the number one ranking in the next three years.
As far as a decade back, the Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association had recognized her exceptional performance in badminton and asked her to go for gold in an international event and now it is clear, that has been achieved. Saina's professor father, who works in Hyderabad, is now a happy man. In an interview to an English News Channel, he said that her victory brought pride to India. |
