 India- one of the most magnificent countries of the world situated at the south of the Asian continent, is the seventh largest country of the world. Formerly known as the ‘Golden Bird', was once the home of the most precious stone ‘The Kohinoor' diamond that now beautifies the crown of the Queen of England.

This lavish country has been ruled by the Aryans, Ashoka - The Great, Muslims, Mughals and the British. India got Independence in the year 1947, and then it was partitioned in two, India and Pakistan. Earlier, the map studies showed India as a tiger but post partition, a part of West Punjab and a few parts of Jammu and Kashmir formed a new country- Pakistan. Post Independence, New Delhi was chosen as the capital and Mumbai as the economic capital. Shri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was chosen as the first Prime Minister and Dr Rajendra Prasad as the first President of India.

India is also famous all over the world for the wide variety of languages spoken (415 languages). Hindi is her national language and English as her second official language. India is the land of spirituality and the people living here consider religion as an integral part of their life and is the only country that has a wide number of religions. She is also known as ‘Bharat'. She got this beautiful name from Bharat, son of King Dasartha of Ayodhya.

This splendid country has a perfect trade location. It is the only country, which has an ocean named after it's name - The Indian Ocean. India is known all over the world for its spices. There are all over 28 states and 7 Union Territories in India and all of these have different  type of cuisines. Some of the different varieties of food are Punjabi , Gujarati, South-Indian, Bengali food and the list is endless. India is also the place of customs and traditions and these are considered as the essence of one's life.

India is a country rich of culture and tradition and is also the home of various festivals like Holi, Baisakhi, Id, Dussehra, Deepawali, Christmas and many more.

The national festivals are also celebrated with great enthusiasm, some of them are The Independence Day, The Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti.

Indian clothes are also known all over the globe for their simplicity, designs and fabric. Sarees and suits are the national outlook of Indian women. An Indian can be recognised even in a huge crowd by his or her attire.

India has a very unique climate, because of which it has become a centre of tourist attraction. With the coming of the multi-nationals in India, people all around the world actually got acquainted with her immense resources, beauty and heritage. Since then, tourism industry in India has witnessed a boom. The major attractions are being the Taj Mahal (One of the Seven Wonders of the World). Beside these, there are many other places to visit in India like New Delhi, Rajasthan, Himalayan Regions, Goa, Kerala, Khajuraho and the list continues.

All in all, India is a unique country with an interesting history. Whoever visits India is mesmerised by her beauty and her people.
