| Noted Chinese artist enthralls Kashmiri audience |

A
unique performance of Chinese traditional music followed by an
interaction with renowned artist Prof (Dr) Liu Yuening enthralled the
audience in Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon (July 1). The 90 minutes
long performance on traditional Chinese instrument called Yangqin acted
as soothing balm on the people, long used to the harsh sounds of
protests and firings. The musical performance was followed by a discussion on changing scenario of traditional Indo-Chinese music with the note that the intellectual community of both countries should work for bringing peace and brotherhood in South Asia.
Prof Liu said that "Yangqin" also known as "Santoor" in India, has been
a part of traditional Chinese musical instruments since centuries. She
also said told that the some of the folk tunes of Kashmiri music
surprisingly resembled with the traditional music of China. While interacting with musicians of Kashmir Valley, Prof Liu Yuening told that in order to create an atmosphere of cordial relationship and brotherhood between two countries, the intellectual community can play a pivotal role.
The performance was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art,, Culture and Language, which was attended by a galaxy of dignitaries, including musicians writers, poets, artists and students of Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Kashmir. |
