Team India needed all the grit and determination of Mahendra Singh Dhoni to defeat West Indies in the rain affected third one-day match.

India won the match by six wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis method to lead the series by 2-1 on Friday. India needed 11 runs in the last over, which appeared to be a difficult task, before Dhoni hit a six on the second ball of Jerome Taylor and later completed the formalities with one ball to spare. Due to the overcast conditions, the match was stopped four times and ultimately reduced to 27 overs per side.

The match also started with a two hour delay as rains lashed the picturesque ground in St Lucia island. Asked to bat by Dhoni, the West Indies posted a competitive total of 185 runs, powered by a fifty by Ramnaresh Sarwan.

However, the Indians were asked to chase 195 runs after the Duckworth-Lewis method was brought into effect. Put to bat, India began the chase with a good start as Dinesh Karthik and Gautam Ghambir put on 84 runs for the first wicket. India continued to lose wickets at regular interval and it was left to skipper Dhoni to guide the team to victory.

The Indian skipper made 46 runs in 34 balls and hit a crucial six in the last over to take the team to victory.
