The total on July 22 morning, has turned out to be blessing in disguise for Taregna village, 25 kilometres from Patna, the capital of Bihar. Hundreds of tourists and scientists from India and abroad are scheduled to visit this village for a rare glimpse of the total solar eclipse also known as 'Surya Grahan' as it would be the best place in India to watch this event.
Taregna villageis also associated with the great Indian astronomer Aryabhatta. It is also being being expected that not only scientists but Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar could also visit the village for a glimpse of the rare celestial event.
At Taregna, the total duration of the eclipse will be 3.48 minutes, while the longest duration will be somewhere over Pacific lasting 6.38 minutes.
The total solar eclispe will be visible along a narrow route alongside India to Pacific ocean. Another rare distinction is that this is first total solar eclipse to be visible from India and another would occur after 25 years.
A partial solar eclipse will be visible in many parts of the country, while the total solar eclipse can be seen at Darjeeling, Indore, Varanasi and Bhopal.
It is believed that great Indian astronomer Aryabhatta had stayed at Taregna to make astronomical studies.
