With the increase in global warming, there has been a lot of focus on ecotourism. Ecotourismis obtained from two words - ecosystem and tourism. It is the best alternative for the people who love nature and its beauty. India is famous among nature lovers and tourists from all over the world. Being famous for its rich culture, beauty and tradition, it is well-equipped with a large number of botanical and zoological gardens that are intended to protect nature and the environment.
The idea has been promoted for safeguarding the environment around us and protecting its resources. Apart from offering an enjoyable visit to tourists who wish to take a break from the hustle bustle of city life and enjoy in midst of greenery, it also safeguards the environment from devastation. This is a perfect form of tourism that encourages going back to natural wealth in every aspect of life. The year 2002 was observed as the ‘International Year of Ecotourism.
The most popular ecotourism locations in India are Rishikesh, Kerala and Pondicherry. In Sanskrit, Rishikesh refers to - he who has all control over his six senses. The place is surrounded by the Holy River Ganga. This is among the finest place for river rafting as here river is bounded by the green Himalayas from both the sides. Rishikesh is also a well-known centre for learning yoga as well as ayurvedic therapy and several ayurvedic pharmacies.
Kerala, on the other hand, is the first planned ecotourism destination in India created to fulfil the requirements of the ecotourists and nature lovers. Here Ayurveda has found a rebirth from an ethnic cure to a lavish indulgence. It is also one of the greenest destinations in India. Pondicherry, lastly, is especially known for its Botanical Garden where a lot of extraordinary species of plants can found. Every year the department of tourism of Pondicherryarranges the annual French Food Festival called Gourmet, which is another appealing factor.
Nature has provided us the joy of relaxing and enjoying its wealth. Ecotourism is one of the major steps in rescuing nature from the pangs of global warming. Everyone should promote and encourage this sector for the well being of our surroundings.
