A leak of the inquiry report of Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan Commission that indicted former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee along with current Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani and former BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi, among others, for the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, raised a furor in the Parliament on Monday.
The Liberhan Commission has called former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi as "pseudo-moderates." LK Advani raised the question of how the report before being presented in the Parliament could be leaked out to a newspaper. As according to a report in the Indian express, the Liberhan Report states that as per what was gathered from all the official reports and witness statements it comes out that the build up of the demolition was meticulously planned and not a spontaneous outcome of sentiments of the gathered crowd.
It is expected that the Home Ministry intends to table the Action Taken Report (ATR) along with the Liberhan Commission report in the Parliament during the ongoing winter session.
The report is learnt to have said that Advani and Vajpayee cannot be absolved of their responsibility from the demolition of Babri Masjid.
Today in the winter session of the Parliament, Advani said he was hit by the fact even senior leader like Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also indicted in the report as per what was leaked in the newspapers.
Justice Liberhan, meanwhile has declined to comment on the news reports saying the Commission's report is with the Parliament. "My mouth is shut. I have not said anything to anybody," he said.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "We cannot talk about a report which is not available. But one thing is clear that for the last 17 years the entire country knows that when such senior leaders were standing in proximity of the Babri masjid, and action by of hordes of people was taking place, planned padyatras were taken across the country, destruction and mayhem was being done, then obviously there is a case to answer."
Once the report is tabled in the Parliament, it will be seen how Congress could use it as fodder to attack BJP.
While rejecting to comment on a report, which he has not yet seen, BJP Spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the government was not paying attention to important issues facing the country like corruption and poverty and diverting the attention of the people to other issues. He also slammed the Govt for selectively leaking the report.
