According to the astrologers, Kumbh Mela (fair), the largest religious gathering in the world, takes place when the planet Jupiter enters Aquaries and sun enters Aries.

This year, Kumbh Mela is held in Haridwar. Lakhs of devotees have gathered here to witness the traditional Kumbh Mela and to take the ritual bath in the holy River Ganga.

At this time, the temperature in Haridwar is very low and water of River Ganga flows at a high speed. Pilgrims should take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the severe cold and also from the crowd as the place is over crowded. Pilgrims should also take care while going to take bath in the holy Ganga.

More than 40,000 police personals are deployed and four to five boats are running for the safety of the devotees. Police personals should be alert and vigil during this period as the number of thieves and pick pocketers increases a lot.

How to reach Haridwar?

The nearest air link to Haridwar is formed by Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun, located approximately 45 km away. From there, you can easily catch a bus or hire a tax to reach the holy city.

If you are thinking of travelling to Haridwar by train, rest assured that the city has a railways station of its own, which connects it with all the key cities of India, like Delhi, Mumbai and even Kolkata.

For all those who love to travel by road, reaching Haridwar will prove to be quite an enjoyable option. The city is connected, via NH 58, with the capital city of India - New Delhi. Apart from that, it also shares a good road network with the other major cities of the country.
