The time has significantly changed. The word ‘marriage' is now no more getting discussed inside the four walls in a house rather elder people have started discussing this in open society to find the right match for their children. With the society getting advanced day by day, the concept of ‘arrange marriage' is losing its shine and the definition itself has changed a lot as compared to how it was 10 to 15 years back.
The ‘information technology (IT)' boom has not only contributed to Indian economy in terms of money and employment but this boom has also resulted in very large number of love marriages across the country. With the high usage of Internet technology and the so-called ‘IT culture', the young generation has become far more independent and thus started taking their own decisions in selecting their life partner. The other factors that are contributing to love marriages are - increasing awareness in the society as now the girls are no more sitting inside the house and doing household works. Now, they are also standing shoulder to shoulder with the boys in terms of getting education and employment opportunities.
The meaning of arrange marriage has also undergone a lot of changes. With the help of modern technologies (chatting, SMS, mobile phone, matrimonial websites, etc), people are now able to know their partner well in advance. This helps them in taking the final decision regarding their marriage. It is far better than the older times where in the name of arrange marriage, the couple hardly gets a chance to see each other's face even once, forget about sharing their thoughts and spending time together. Marriage is one of the most divine rituals and it can't be successful in the long run if we don't have the blessings of our elders/parents. But on the other hand, the parents should also understand that they are not dictators and can't close their eyes in front of their children's happiness for the sake of their fake radical values. |
