I am indeed surprised that a lot of people are over rating China in the fields of production, exports and growth of per capita income. If you are a well wisher of the Chinese people, you may encourage the economists and government financial agencies to take effective steps for proper distribution of wealth earned through exports.

Right now the coastal areas and southern China, like Guangchou, Fujian, Pudong and so on are becoming rich and richer. On the other hand the hinterland in the mountainous region of the West and North-West still are not as prosperous as their country cousins in the coastal areas. Naturally, the economic disparity within the country has led to social tensions and even infringement of local laws. It is bad for China as a country. It is bad for Asians as such.

REMEDIAL MEASURES

The central government in Beijing may organise a task force to deliberate over the problem and see that the problem does not go from bad to worse. After all, the men, women and children inhabiting mountainous regions are also born citizens of the People's Republic of China. They also pay taxes as per their income. They also go in for military service when the nation needs them.

Patriotism is inborn and the youth of both sexes do not think twice before laying down their lives for the cause of the country. The adult son of Chairman Mao had volunteered and enrolled into the army, People's Liberation Army of China and was sent to the front line to fight against the American forces in Korea. He fought bravely but unfortunately lost his life in one of the bombing and strafing sorties of the American planes. The point I wish to make is that Patriotism should be rewarded by the government by ensuring that there is no glaring disparity on account of a faulty fiscal policy of the national or a local government.

Returning to the original point of the economic growth of TEN point seven per cent of the Chinese economy, I wish to congratulate the govt and people of China and implore them to take good care of the entire population and not of some selected regions alone.

May the developing countries of Asia unite and look after each other. The new century now belongs to CHINDIA - China and India. Let us not fritter away our energy and the opportunity offered by squabbles and inequitable distribution of wealth within the country.
