The complexity of the world has increased due to the influence of advancement of technology. Globalisation, market forces, competition and rapid changes in the social environment due to land use and urbanisation are influencing life in a big way.

Unfortunately, the social development of the child is unable to keep pace with the technological advancement, homes and schools have not been able to invent new and better-paced methods of social development of children to keep pace with the technological development pace.

Schools are afraid of disturbing their conventional work culture to improve the sociological bases in consonance with the technological advancement. Under such a scenario, schools need to go for the cooperative, collaborative, participatory, integrative and inclusive processes and approaches of learning and school organisation.

The need is that of personal transformation of the school functionaries and social transformation of the school organisation, or else the technology and market forces will colonise schools to further dehumanise them through mechanisation of the processes and isolation of individuals.

The best place of bringing about a change is the classroom wherein cooperative learning, team teaching, integrated learning can easily be implemented with a small number of students. Another alternative is that of home schooling or small schools with vertical grouping with continuous progress approach to learning.

So, schools need to create a culture of social transformation with cooperation and integration as values and de-emphasise competition.

What is your take on that!
