In the last one month, cricket is the only sport that media's obsessed with. Team India's shameful exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup in the West Indies, too, has not stopped news channels from wasting their airtime on cricketers. Despite this shameful defeat, whole panel of former cricket players and sports journalists are meticulously and mercilessly taking part in the performance analysis of the cricketers on and off the cricket field on various channels condemning the cricketers. When the Indian team wins, the media wastes no time in again singing their praises.

It's time for media to declare cricket as the National game of India. It looks like the media prefers to forget other sports as they do not get you name, money and TRPs. Not even the common man bets and gambles with other sports. Cricket is a religion in India and cricket players are deities. The media and the thoughtless public are its worshippers. It is disappointing to see that the media do not give talented and successful sportsmen like Anand their due till he wins a prestigious tournament and silently achieves what he sets out to.

It's the television which started the cricket frenzy during the 80's, knowing that it is the only game where you can see more commercials than the game itself, increasing the TRP ratings .This cannot happen in any other game, it is time that the media stops giving only the game of cricket and its players, so much of adulation.

When cricketers played well, media worshipped them like gods and when they lose, the same media blames them. I feel media should concentrate more on the development of the nation, rather than gathering publicity for their channels with cricket only. Media needs to grow up!

I believe the word media is misused in this article. Media does not make money from vacuum. It is the viewers who encourage such nuisance by viewing them. If a general oath is taken by the public that non sense news will not be taken and when the number of viewer count gets negligible, our media would serve its purpose. Until then we can expect only nonsense on TV.
